Ajanta is a very good Indian food buffet for OKC. I especially enjoy the chicken tiki Marsala on lemon rice with their hot chili sauce on the side. It's a slow and persistent building heat that is very tasty. Love it especially during a cold winter day. Another favorite from the buffet is the tandoori chicken. Very tasty. The service is wonderful. Extremely attentive and very friendly staff.

One of my best friends is a card-carrying vegan. I'm only being minimally sarcastic; he's the type of guy who probably carries a card autheniticating his membership in the vegan clique. He also recently moved with his workplace to the g_dforsaken hinterlands (aka Edmond), so I made a rare trip above Wilshire for his birthday to do lunch at Ajanta. The intersection of NW 122nd and Penn probably once had a touch of cache. Now it just has traffic. That, and some big employment concern that takes up 2/3 of the large corner strip mall complex where Ajanta is located that can't be bothered to identify itself. However, you'll know it by the hordes of vehicles that couldn't possibly be at the few remaining shops. Parking could be a little tight around Noon. That said, we arrived at 11:30 (when they opened). Lunchtime generally means buffet at the ethnic joints we frequent. I have a love/hate relationship with buffets. I love the variety and the speed of service. I hate the questionable hygiene, the often suspect food quality, and the lack of discipline that I have when faced with unlimited curry. The buffet had one cart for salad (ignored) and chutneys/sauces. I have some tamarind sauce, but didn't use much of it. The second cart had two types of rice (just rice, not birianyi), tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, both spinach and mushroom chaat, curried chickpeas, grilled vegetables, and some other items I don't remember. Dessert was kheer. I was not disgusted, but not impressed. The chickpeas had a really nice flavor, but everything else was on the bland side. It wasn't bad; just blah. I give this place three stars because the tableside service was outstanding, even for a lunch buffet, and because the chickpea curry spice level leads me to believe that the kitchen is likely pandering to Indian food novices like the dunce who seemed incapable of using her indoor voice while pandering to her equally ignorant table mates ("you can eat here; they have vegetables..."). I'll come back and order off the menu...the next time I have to venture north of the (mental) Wall.

I had the chicken korma, which was pretty good. I thought I was going to die for a second, as I bit into a whole cardamom pod in my food, but I recovered. My only complaint is that their menu outside the buffet is really limited. And that the waitress who served my beer just dumped it in the glass, which created a lot of head.

Ajanta has the best crispy spinach tempura things, the best naan, the best soups, the best palak paneer, and the best vegetable choices in the city. The service is wonderful, and the Indian music is a nice touch (as opposed to the Pearl Jam I heard at another Indian restaurant in town recently). As a vegetarian, I really appreciate the choices. I only wish they had the little donut things during weekday lunch buffet. I won't quit you, Ajanta! You're my fave.

Been here a couple of times and had their lunch buffet. Average is how I would describe it. The spread is not that good and doesn't change much (according to their own waiter). The butter chicken just tasted funny. The naan was hard. Tandoori chicken was alright. So was the pakoda spinach. Gulab Jamun was almost scorching hot. (Usually you expect it to be cold.) The place is well maintained and the staff are courteous.

The Chicken Tikka Masala here is absolutely phenomenal. If you want it spicy, oh man, they'll make it that way. We always get a side of garlic naan and it is also delicious!!! Best part is that they take our Keep It Local card, which means 10% off. That adds up with how much we eat here. I highly suggest it. We mostly get to-go, but eating in is also a great experience.

The buffet is a little on the small side but everything I had was fresh and tasty and the service was impeccable. Apparently this was the first Indian restaurant in OKC so they must be doing something right! The lunch buffet price was quite reasonably priced and if you show your Keep it Local OK card they'll give you a 10% discount! I will definitely be returning for dinner!

Very clean, friendly staff, good food. Had the weekend lunch buffet for $11. Tika masala, vegetable biryani, salad, raita, scalloped potatoes, naan, and cabbage were good. My only complaint would be that the chicken tandoori was a little dry, but it was still good. The two desserts - vermicelli noodle and galab jamun were delicious. Will be coming back.

This is my first time here. The food was awesome! Lunch buffet after tax was $9. Service was great and food was hot and fresh. Bathroom was a little dirty but not enough to make me turn around and leave. I ate way too much I need a nap now. Zzzzzz... I will be back!

Our favorite Indian restaurant in the OKC area! Very good food and service. We're very particular about Indian food, and we are lucky to have found Ajanta to satisfy our cravings. I believe they were the first Indian restaurant in OKC.

Although most of the food is tasty, the last few times we've eaten at the buffet, the food is barely lukewarm. The restaurant is also kept very cold which makes it uncomfortable while eating.

I've heard a lot of good things about this place, so I went to try the lunch buffet. The food was okay, but the selection was not very good. The service was excellent though, I think my water must have been refilled at least 4 times, before it was even half way empty. We were thanked by about 5 different staff on the way out. Everything was piping hot, but I just could have used a little more... zest? I don't want to say the food was bland, but it wasn't as flavorful as it could be. Of course, it seemed to be a lot healthier than your standarn indian lunch buffet, probably because they didn't load all the saucy dishes up with ghee. I'll still stick with Gopuram for lunch, but still would like to try this place for dinner.

We went on A Tuesday evening, the place was very quiet inside and even though it's located in a strip mall type area, you wouldn't know it once your seated. First of all the service we received was wonderful, very polite and caring, very very nice and thoughtful educated service. And that theses days can really make the difference in the dining experience. They have a very extensive menu, and although we were there for dinner, we did look over the lunch menu and it looked like that have some great deals! We each ordered a different soup both were great he had Mulligatawny Soup which had lentils and a little citrus curry type flair to it and I had Madras Soup which was like a Tomato soup but better. For entrees we ordered Muglai Curry with Lamb and the Bhuna Gosht with Beef. They both came with Basmati rice as well, everything was served family style just as it should be. :) The Bhuna Gosht has onions and peppers and just thee right amount of ginger and curry spices, it's listed as a little spicy on the menu but I didn' t think it was too spicy at all, it has just a tiny bit of spice. (I'm sure you can always request more if you'd like as well). Thank goodness our waitress suggested we have some Nann as well, it went perfectly with the sauces of the dishes. And the beef was sooooo tender as if it was slow roasted all day. The meals were truly delicious, and was more that the two of us could eat in one sitting so we were able to take home left overs. Yay! Our total meal with Drinks (non alcoholic, although their house wine was VERY reasonable priced) was around 37.00. I would have paid 50,00 or more. Not just because the food was great, but because the atmosphere and our service was top notch as well. I hope to have a weekday off sometime to take advantage of their Lunch menu, I think they may even have a lunch Buffet available ...I cant wait!!

Great service and food. I accidentally stayed 15 minutes after the lunch buffet ended, but the waiter was kind and helpful. Really delicious food.

This is my favorite restaurant in OKC. The owner is wonderful, and we have lovely conversations when I come in. The wait staff is always very attentive and friendly. The food is amazing. I prefer going for dinner because everything is prepared freshly for you, which is something you miss out on during the lunch buffet. The Non-Vegetable Dinner for Two is my personal favorite, as it just happens to include all of my favorite dishes. It's a large dinner for two people for under $40, and it's delicious. If I ever find another Indian restaurant that I prefer to Ajanta, I will be shocked.

Great food, wonderful service. It was my first time having Indian food, and I am very pleased. The restaurant was recommended to me by an Indian, if that helps provide more legitimacy. We will definitely eat there again soon!

Sometimes people feel this intense desire to have something authentic and real. Sometimes, less than authentic is just as acceptable and sometimes below par is what you "settle" for. For me Ajanta falls into the last category. Being from Washington DC, I am used to dining at excellent Indian restaurants so the differences between excellent and below average were very easy to point out. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the entire staff of the restaurant maybe because the restaurant was fairly empty. There were couple of other families/couples in the restaurant. I agree with previous writer (Lisa A.) the selection wasnt very good. We ordered Chicken Curry, Tikka Boti Masala, Chicken Kadhai and some parathas. To my surprise everything came within 10 minutes. To me that is not a good sign especially when it comes to Indian food. There needs to be some preparation but it seemed like everything was simply reheated and brought to the table. I also understand what is involved in Indian cooking so I know it is not realistic to expect them to make everything from scratch (although for most of my non-Indian friends, that's a common perception). Most of the fine restaurants have a different approach to Indian food. They boil their meats ahead of time and prepare everything else from scratch as you wait for your food. It's pretty normal to expect 20-30 minutes for your food at a good Indian restaurant. Boti Masala., although the spices were a nice balance, meat was old and you could taste that in every bite. My friends didnt like their Chiken Curries. Chicken Kadhai was blend of Chicken curry and boti masala which is not how it's typically prepared (hence, far from authentic) and the worse part was burnt parathas. Because my friends had invited me I didn't complaint about the food. I wouldnt recommend the place to someone who is looking for good, authentic Indian food unless management decides to make some revolutionary changes to their menu and measure of freshness. The service was excellent and staff was very attentive. Sometimes a bit too attentive. I think the challenge for Ajanta is to match their food with their service so they can become remarkable.

The restaurant is nice, the staff are attentive and helpful, and the food is good. My food was ready very quickly. It was good quality indian food, although it's not the very best I've come across. It's nice to find an indian restaurant in Oklahoma. I would go back if I lived in the area. I had the chicken tikka masasla and chai. Tasty and reasonably priced.

It is an ok place in oklahoma to have an indian cuisine, there is not much variety of food but the limit options are gud....!!! For a change this is a nice place to have food...!

"Amazing service - tops anything else I've ever been to. I ordered a Chicken Tikki Masala spicy and it was too spicy but of course I didn't say anything. When the waiter came over to ask if everything was ok, I just said it was really good but spicy and he said he could make it less spicy - which I took his offer up on. Wonderful. I have been to many Indian restaurants in Boston and not even Rani is up to par with this one!"

This restaurant is very good compared to others on metro area. Hubby and I highly recommend the lunch buffet. Palak Paneer is my favorite Indian dish and here it is thick and tasty! Another local place waters it down to the consistency of soup!

Best Indian food I've had! The chicken curry was delicious, and they refill your rice for free. Dessert is a must!! Best service of any restaurant in OKC!

The highest quality, but lowest variety of OKC's indian buffets. As others have said, the Chicken Tikka Masala is very good. It's thicker and tastier than the competition and has a more complex flavor profile. The service seemed to be really good as well. The server was very familiar with the other guests who were apparently regulars.

We go here for the buffet. It's a wonderful way to try different types of Indian food and spices to find out what you like. The staff is unbelievable. Your water glass gets refilled before it is half empty.

During my visit here, my father and I were in the mood for Indian cuisine. We came across this place and stopped by for the buffet during the midday. The restaurant was nicely set up, but I do feel like it could do with some touch ups to make it more inviting. However, the service was excellent and the two gentlemen working that morning were on their game. Now, I've always been a huge fan of going to Indian restaurants, however, having from friends from this region of the world has hurt many businesses, and now I know what they meant that it won't ever taste homemade. The food was great, and I enjoyed what was there. However, there were a couple of the food items on the buffet that I was not too keen on. I love Tandoori chicken, love it, however, it was dry when there and tasted a little bland for tandoori. Next, was the fried spinach that seemed like spinach tempura, well, I would suggest replacing that with something else for the buffet. Everything was great in flavor. My father enjoyed it a lot. I do recommend giving this place a chance!

I've gone to Ajanta many times since 2000, even driving up from Norman in college to eat here, and eventually moving just up the street. Their service has always been wonderful, and you're really cared for and attended too. Flavors of their dishes is superb and the standard by which I set my expectations of other Indian cuisine to. Their lunch buffer may be small but it's not cheapened down buffet food like other restaurants who offer a lunch buffet, it's the same items you'd get if you order from the menu. Their tiki masala is delicious, with any meat you choose. My favorite dish though is the chicken korma. It's full of flavor and just so good with the rice. They have great naan bread, which I happily eat with korma or tiki masala sauce. If I had to pick one thing to change, it would simply be that I wish there was a little more meat in the dishes, but that wasn't enough of a complaint to remove a star.

This place is truly amazing. The staff is so helpful and attentive, and the food is out of this world. The Chicken Tiki Masala is best in the city. The lunch buffet is small, but it is of such great quality and flavor that you won't miss the gigantic buffet line. My husband and I eat here once a week for lunch and each time the bill comes to about $20. And we leave so full that we can't move! It's wonderful. If you love Indian cuisine, try Ajanta!

Top notch service. My cup of water was never empty! Dim lighting. Kind of empty for lunch on a Friday around 1pm. Yes, the buffet is small. Two tables 1 carried chaffing dishes of warm food, the other table had cold plates of salad and sauces. The normal Indian cuisine staples that you see at an Indian buffet are served... Na'an, fried spinach, chicken tiki masala, tandori chicken, spinach and cheese, sliced cabbage, egg curry. Wha, egg curry you say?? Yup! Boiled eggs cooked with a savory brown sauce. Technically not a real curry I guess? Interesting to see that dish because it tastes similar to a pork and egg dish my mom cooks! I was even offered some fresh bread, but my tummy couldn't take anymore. $8.99 for lunch.

Ordered channa masala here...it was really good. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. Would go here again if I am in OKC again.

I went with my little sister who doesn't particularly care for traditional Indian food, but I still got her to try half the buffet items, and the waiter, upon seeing she only had three good spoonfuls, didn't charge for her plate :) From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall place, but give it a try! It wasn't my favorite for vegetarian options, but I'm glad I went!

When I lived in OKC I got chicken tikka masala here every other week for about three years! Best Indian food I've had anywhere. Friendly staff, good service. Great naan and mango lassis as well.

Very nice and attentive staff but horrible food. I would say more but that pretty much sums it up. We had the buffet to sample a little of everything. Very bland not much spice or flavor and the best of the best was just mediocre.
